Griffith College, Ireland’s largest independent higher education institution, hosted a referendum debate at its South Circular Road, Dublin campus on Monday, 4th March.
Labour Party Leader Ivana Bacik and Independent Senator and former Attorney General, Michael McDowell, debated the upcoming constitutional referendum on the definition of family. The panel was chaired by former High Court Judge, Roderick Murphy.
The event is part of GC50, a series of initiatives to mark Griffith College’s fiftieth anniversary in 2024.
Speaking ahead of the debate, Professor Diarmuid Hegarty, President of Griffith College, said: “Universities and colleges play a significant role in encouraging the open exchange of ideas on matters of societal importance. Griffith College is delighted to welcome Ivana Bacik, Michael McDowell and Roderick Murphy. It is a highly experienced and expert panel; I look forward to a spirited debate ahead of Friday’s referendum vote.”
Founded in 1974 by Professor Diarmuid Hegarty, Griffith College enjoys a national and international reputation for student success.
