Irish primary schools have embarked on their most significant transformation in over a generation with the launch of the redeveloped curriculum in September 2025. The new curriculum is based on the Primary Curriculum Framework (2023) and emphasises learning through play and inquiry. with a shift away from traditional learning methods. This innovative approach aims to foster a love of learning and equips the children with the critical thinking skills they need to thrive.

The curriculum is organised into five areas

Teacher Support and Phased Implementation:
The curriculum will be introduced gradually from the 2025/2026 school year, giving teachers the time and resources they need to adapt to the changeover.
