Technological Universities Bill becomes law

The Technological Universities Bill has been signed into law with the first application to be submitted in the coming months with a view to the establishment of the first Technological University in the current year.

Many of the Institutes of Technology are hoping to transit to the new designation in regional groupings. 10 out of the 14 IoTs are part of these groupings who will now go through the application process outlined in the new legislation.

The four groupings are based in Connacht-Ulster, Munster, the South-East and in Dublin. The proposed Dublin TU will be comprised of the DIT along with Blanchardstown and Tallaght Institutes of Technology and is likely to be the first approved and largest with over 30,000 students spread across three campuses.
