SCFE new course options mean a bright and optimistic future for students

It’s that time of the year again when school leavers and other adults are planning for next September. After a couple of years that have turned our lives upside-down, the value of positive life experiences have become a priority.

Further Education or Post Leaving Certificate courses are now well established as alternative pathway to Higher Education and are understood to support learners in gaining the skills and knowledge that will prepare them for the rigours of third level studies and decrease the potential for drop out. More importantly Further Education provides students with work ready skills which are industry led and provide direct access into meaningful employment.

SCFE has a truly diverse range of courses on offer, many of which really suit learners who excel in creative and practical areas such as Art, Floristry, Fashion, Drama and Musical Performance, Hairdressing & Beauty, Sport, Fitness and Wellbeing. SCFE has a strong reputation for excellence in the area of Early Childhood Education, Youth Work and Social Studies and now also offers courses in Special Needs Assisting and Intellectual Disability Studies and advanced Special Needs Assisting.

Our Travel and Tourism courses suit learners who enjoy working with others and have an interest in travel and heritage.

Choose what’s right for you, and the staff of Sallynoggin College will be there to help and support you on every step of your journey.

As always courses in sociology and social care areas prove to be popular choices for students. For September 2022 SCFE has introduced a new QQI Level 5 Criminology Including Social Studies course.

This course is ideal for students with an interest in the causes of crime and the criminal justice system in Ireland. This course along with the QQI Level 5 Social Studies Including Criminology and Addiction Studies and QQI Level 5 Youth Work and Community Development including Criminology and Addiction Studies courses have clear progression pathways to the SCFE QQI Level 6 Advanced Social Studies Including Advocacy course and a broad range of Level 7 and Level 8 options at third level.

There’s More to Life at SCFE as Students engage with Local Community

It often feels like our world has become smaller during the past two years, with this in mind students at SCFE have reached out to the local community to share their skills and enthusiasm.

DLR Council, Playful City, SCFE and other local community services teamed up to bring some magic to the local community in Sallynoggin with the Love Our Laneways event. SCFE student pop-up activities included Art Craft & Design students penning portraits, Fashion Design Students bringing Bling to the teddy bear population, Youth Work students gathering wishes for the wishing tree, Early Learning and Care students entertaining the toddlers, Travel and Tourism students guiding us through local history.

SCFE students grew in confidence and learned valuable skills through their leadership and participation in the project. They are now keen to build on this experience and step outside the comfort zone, proving that college life is all about the learning but not necessarily in the traditional context.
